Why work at PDSA?

One look and you'll know.

A yelping dog with broken leg. A crying cat with a sore paw. A listless bird that’s off its food. A stressed small furry that’s too scared to come out from hiding.

A sick and injured pet tugs at our heartstrings. Helping them back to health and seeing the happiness on their owner’s face is hugely satisfying. It’s about caring: seeing the real value of a loving relationship between pet and owner.

Every year 470,000 pets need our help with over 2.7 million treatments to stop them suffering from sickness, injury and to prevent them from dying. This makes PDSA the UK’s leading veterinary charity

We believe that we work better together, so everyone helps. From our vets and volunteers to our shop and office support staff – we are a dedicated team who are passionate about pets. Join us at PDSA and help improve the lives of every pet. Whoever you are, wherever you live and whatever you do – it helps make a difference – thank you.

Pets and people at the heart of what we do.   Veterinary Surgeon  vacancies are now available at PDSA Basildon and Southend Pet Hospital and Clinic.   This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding team of 13 vets in our large, modern, purpose-built and well equipped Pet Hospital and Clinic. We are a relatively new, friendly and motivated team with an excellent and varied caseload beyond any you are likely to see in first-opinion private practice. We are dedicated to continuous professional development with a proven recent history of supporting the completion of surgery certificates.   Our Basildon Pet Hospital has 24 hour inpatient care; 6 consulting rooms; 2 dedicated theatres; separate dental theatre; large prep area; separate dog and cat kennelling; digital radiography; ultrasound; endoscopy; piped gases; extensive orthopaedic equipment and a supportive team of experienced vets, registered veterinary nurses (VNs) and veterinary care assistants (VCAs). We use our staff to their full potential so our registered VNs routinely perform consultations and Schedule 3 surgeries within their capabilities.   The PDSA offers many employee benefits including: competitive remuneration on a fair and transparent pay-scale; 25 days’ holiday (plus bank holidays); opportunities for career progression; life assurance and pension schemes; CPD allowance of £1000 (plus 5 days) for vets and a genuine 37.5 hour week allowing for an excellent work-life balance.   Experience would be an advantage for the Veterinary Surgeon vacancies, but we can also support new graduates who show great potential.   About PDSA: As the UK’s leading veterinary charity, with 51 Pet Hospitals and over 380 Pet Practices, we strive to improve pets’ lives – through prevention, education and treatment. Every year our dedicated vet teams carry out 2.7 million treatments on 470,000 pets.
