We are seeking an enthusiastic full time veterinarian to join our team. The position will be based out of Geraldine and would suit a vet with an interest in proactively advising farm clients on enhancement of on farm production, health and welfare. The work load would be predominately dairy however there is an opportunity to have a mix of high country station, sheep/beef/deer and companion animal work.
Aorangi Veterinary Services is a progressive practice with branches located in Geraldine, Fairlie and Timaru. We have a very loyal client base. The business provides an extensive range of veterinary services to our clients and we are well resourced with experienced vets and up to date equipment and technology.
We currently employ 12 veterinarians across the business. The vet team meet once a month to share experiences/knowledge and ideas. We are enthusiastic about building strong teams and strong communication to ensure all staff are valued and enjoy their work environment.
South Canterbury caters to a wide range of leisure and lifestyle opportunities. Mt Cook, National Parks, lakes and ski fields are on our doorstep. Geraldine has an excellent community spirit and is a great place for families and young professionals.
Salary will be according to experience. A vehicle, laptop, cellphone, membership to NZVA and Vet Council registration will be funded by the practice. Continuing education and specialist interests are encouraged and there is an excellent support structure in place.
Aorangi Veterinary Services is a mixed practice located in the heart of South Canterbury, with branches located in Geraldine, Fairlie and Timaru. The location caters to a wide range of interests with Mt Cook, national parks, lakes and ski fields on your doorstep.
The successful applicant will be predominately based in Geraldine, where there are currently 4 full time vets and 2 part timers. Geraldine and Fairlie are both mixed practices, with an expanding dairy client base around Geraldine, and also a good balance of companion animal, deer, beef and sheep clients.
The Geraldine branch currently service 40 dairy farms, and that number is building all the time. We use Infovet to analysis our dairy data, and in combination with body condition scoring, Milking Management and Incalf are very focused in consultancy services for these clients leading to better production and reduced on farm expenses. The Geraldine clinic’s workload is roughly 50 percent dairy, 35 percent companion animal and the balance in other large animal species.
The third clinic in the practice is the Highfield Veterinary Centre in Timaru. Highfield is Best Practice accredited and has a very well equipped small animal surgery. We currently run one full time vet and 3 part time vets at Highfield providing a very experienced companion animal back up when required.
The position is full time, currently Geraldine after hours is rostered equally, staff are on call one night per week, and the weekends are rostered one in six.
Aorangi Veterinary Services Ltd encourages ongoing CPD and this is funded by the practice. Veterinarians are encouraged to follow an elective CPD programme and to attend relevant courses which are available for both general clinical practice matters and other areas of special interest, in so far as they apply to the advancement of useful professional standards.
A vehicle will be provided for work use for the successful applicant. We will also provide a mobile phone, laptop and mobile internet access. Vet Council Registration and NZVA membership will be paid by AVS. Remuneration will be dependent on experience and is reviewed annually based on NZVA levels and experience.
The area is great for sporting activities if you are that way inclined, with ski fields and lakes within an hours drive.
Aorangi Vets is a privately owned company. The company was formed in 1978, so has been ticking along for nearly 40 years, and is in a sound financial position with a loyal client base. We employ 27 staff and have a good team, with some staff having been here over 20 years.
